A medical corporation filed a dangerous constitutional challenge to replace our precious public health care system with a US-style system. The lawsuit goes to trial in less than 3 weeks -- and we urgently need your help to save public healthcare now.
Cambie Surgeries Corporation, infamous for illegally over-billing patients, is suing to amend the Medicare Protection Act to allow doctors to charge whatever they want for services -- essentially privatizing our healthcare system. What’s worse, it will allow international private insurance corporations to flood into Canada.

Dr. Brian Day, the founder of Cambie Surgery, is the literal embodiment of profit over people. He’s so set on making a few bucks that he’s willing to dismantle the Canadian healthcare system to do it.
Day’s strategy is to attack four key pieces of legislation in the Medicare Protection Act. Three of them have to do with stopping doctors working the public system from over-billing. One of them has to do with private insurance being paid for publicly available services. He wants that ban lifted so that people who want to buy private care can get private insurance to provide their private care.
The worst thing is that it cracks open the door for big American insurance companies to weasel their way into Canada. They haven’t had a way in before -- but this could be it.
Big U.S. insurance corporations are licking their lips waiting in the wings for this.
The scariest thing is that this constitutional challenge case doesn’t just affect British Columbia. It would be precedent-setting nationally -- and will almost certainly end up in the Supreme Court.
With less than 3 weeks until the case goes to trial, we need a fighting chance at saving our precious public healthcare.
