A CONSTRUCTIVE SOLUTION TO B.C.'S HOUSING CRISIS

Many families are suffering from the federal and provincial government’s weak action towards the ongoing childcare crisis in British Columbia. The suffering is a result of incomprehensibly high parent fees for childcare programs and waitlists that are far too long, forcing many families to chose unregulated childcare. The vulnerability of young children in BC is increasing, thus change is necessary.

The $10aDay childcare campaign, which the B.C. New Democrats now support in their platform, aims to provide accessible, affordable and quality childcare in BC. Read more!

NAFTA REDUX

The new Trump administration has made the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between Canada, Mexico and the United States, a major issue in its relations with its two neighbours. Recently, Trump has threatened to tear it up. With his standard nationalist demagogy, he claims “previous bad trade deals,” have cost the United States many jobs as a result of American manufacturers moving plants off-shore. Read more!


ALBERTA NDP ACT LIKE TORIES ON BILL 7

Last week, Alberta’s Bill 7 was passed and came into effect. This Bill moves faculty and graduate student collective bargaining under the Labour Relations Code. This means bargaining impasse will (effective immediately) be resolved via strike-lockout. Overall, Bill 7 is sensible and necessary to respond to the evolving jurisprudence around freedom of association. Read more!
