[Uvic-sustainability] News and Evnets for week of Sept 29th

NEWS

The Victoria Car Share Co-op has announced plans to merge with Vancouver’s Modo car sharing network. This will give Victoria car share members, including those with UVic memberships, access to fob technology, doing away with lock boxes for keys and manual trip entries, access to newer vehicles and easy access to the Metro Vancouver fleet when visiting there. Watch for more details on this coming in the next few months.

A team of researchers led by UVic’s Quentin Mackie (Anthropology) and Allison Proctor (Mech Engineering) are using an automated underwater vehicle to survey ancient riverbeds in Gwaii Haannas National Park Reserve. They believe they have uncovered evidence of the earliest human habitation of Canada – perhaps 14,000 years old. See Vancouver Sun and UVic News.

Victoria’s 24 year old Joseph Boutilier has completed his 5.5 month trek from Victoria to Ottawa... on his unicycle (that’s right, on one wheel!) to raise awareness about climate change. He chose this mode to get attention and bring the issue of climate change back into the news, and feels he succeeded. See Times Colonist.
