The Launch of All Abilities Connected Communities

Hello PeerNetBC friends and Community members,

With financial support from Vancouver Coastal Health Sharon Martin Fund, Coast Capital Savings and Inclusion BC Foundation, we are excited to be offering a pilot Project - All Abilities Connected Communities (AACC).

AACC objectives include:

  • Provide mentorship, build leadership capacity, confidence and facilitation skills for youth with disabilities;
  • Youth with disabilities become better connected to their communities and have greater capacity to lead conversations and advocate for their own health and wellness;
  • Find, grow and connect leadership opportunities for youth with disabilities increasing representation in leadership positions.

All Abilities Connected Communities is looking for youth participants between the ages of 16 – 29 who are interested in learning to be facilitators and or interested in participating in leadership opportunities in our communities.

AACC has two activity outcomes:

  • 8 – 12 week leadership and facilitation training (starting January 2017)
  • Mentorship in creating and facilitating workshops and or mentorship for participating in a leadership position or capacity

The training will be facilitated by Inclusion BC, North Shore Disability Resource Centre (NSDRC), PeerNetBC, Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN), and an accessibility and inclusion consultant, Karen Lai. These partners will cover various topics such as peer support, facilitation, team building, self-awareness, inclusive leadership, disability justice, conflict, communication, and self-determination. Following the training, there will be mentorship and opportunities to apply the learned skills.

We are holding two orientation sessions to share more details about AACC; you only have to attend one.
