Dear Paov,
We did it!
Thanks to your action for BC’s endangered species, on Feb 28 the Wilderness Committee delivered over 40,000 signatures on a petition to the provincial legislature calling for a BC endangered species law.
BC’s species at risk need your help and you stepped in - thank you so much!
As many of you know, BC has the most biodiversity in the country with over 1,900 species at risk. However, we have no endangered species law to protect our vulnerable wildlife. Instead the BC government relies on a hodgepodge of weak regulations and inadequate laws that simply aren’t doing the job.
Tens of thousands of people like you signed the petition and forwarded it to your friends, relatives and coworkers.
And they heard us. Both the BC NDP and the BC Green Party introduced private member’s bills calling for endangered species legislation that coincided with our petition delivery. We even got front-page coverage in the Victoria Times Colonist.
At six weeks before our provincial election, the timing couldn’t be better. This window of opportunity is a critical time to raise the issue with your candidates, here's three actions you can take.
You can keep the pressure on until the election and then continue to push our new government to enact the legislation BC’s species need. Make a donation today to protect wildlife for all of Canada’s tomorrows.
DonateWorking together we can ensure that our children and grandchildren live in a province with grizzly bears, American badgers, monarch butterflies, spotted owls and western toads.
Thanks again for caring and standing up for BC’s species at risk,
Gwen Barlee | National Policy Director
