Southern mountain caribou need your help!

Dear Paov,

Sometimes fast action is required to save an endangered species from being logged out of existence.

Recently we got the call from a local resident in the Clearwater Valley that a BC population of endangered southern mountain caribou were in trouble. So I made an emergency trip up there to document a huge clearcut logging operation by Canadian Forest Products (CANFOR). It's occurring in an area designated as critical habitat for them.

There are only 130 caribou remaining in the southern Wells Gray area – and that number is declining as logging rips into their dwindling habitat.

This video by Damien Gillis of the Common Sense Canadian shows this huge area of forest being clearcut. Clearcutting opens up the forest to increased populations of moose and deer, which attracts wolves, which in turn kill caribou.

I need you to write John Horgan, Andrew Weaver, and federal Environment Minister McKenna about this area of endangered species habitat that is being logged right now. The logging there needs to stop NOW – and all areas of critical endangered southern mountain caribou habitat must be put off-limits to industrial logging.

Write your letter today!

Remember – our provincial government is brand new and our federal government is just over a year and a half old. There is good reason to hope that they will take action to save BC’s endangered species - like the southern mountain caribou.

Please write your letter today, don’t delay!
