INTERNET INSIDER
August 18, 2016
We’re well into the dog days of summer here in the northern hemisphere, traditionally a time when political debate slows down a notch — but the time of year certainly hasn’t stopped the battle over the Trans-Pacific Partnership from really heating up.
U.S. President Obama has put Congress on notice that he will soon be sending them a bill to implement the deal, despite opposition from both the leading presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. It’s looking a lot like there’ll be a full-throated attempt to pass the TPP in the ‘lame-duck’ session after November’s election — so we’ve got work to do!
But fear not: campaigners against the TPP are ramping up their efforts to kill this terrible deal once and for all. Fresh off its fantastic launch in Denver, Rock against the TPP concerts are soon heading west to Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco (full details here). And we’ll soon have exciting news about a Rock against the TPP date in Canada - stay tuned!
