The all-party parliamentary committee studying voting reform is coming through your area next week to meet with the public.

We have under a month left before the committee finishes up their consultation process and less than three months until they make a final recommendation on how to fix our broken voting system. If we show up and speak for PR at these events, we can send a strong message that voters want a fair, inclusive and collaborative democracy through proportional representation.

Can you attend this voting reform event next week? (Apologies for the short notice - we just learned the location!)

If you RSVP you’ll get a very simple guide that will help you prepare for the session, including some tips on how to participate in the open mic session.

In 2015 Justin Trudeau made a promise to reform our voting system and make every vote count in time for the next election. But the Prime Minister is under pressure from groups who want to block progress and keep us stuck with our first-past-the-post system.

The all-party committee studying voting reform needs to know that we want a fair voting system where every vote counts. A fair, proportional voting system is the best way to ensure that we get governments that represent the will of the people, and prevent someone like Harper from being able to have 100% of the power with only 39% of the vote.

Already, over 25,000 people have signed on to Leadnow’s Vote Better campaign in support of proportional representation, but there’s a real risk that we could be overshadowed at consultations by groups who favour the status quo. That’s why we need to bring our strength to the in-person consultations and send a clear message that we want proportional representation.

I really hope you can make it to the consultation,

Rachel, on behalf of the Leadnow team
