Uber

SumOfUs r1 ...

A,

You did it. Uber’s CEO is officially out.

Uber’s wealthiest investors finally did the right thing on Tuesday and forced notorious CEO Travis Kalanick to resign. These investors would never have moved without months of mounting pressure from thousands of SumOfUs members like you!

This is a story of the combined power of courageous whistleblowing, international protest, and local organizing coming together to hold a $70 billion transport corporation accountable for its toxic culture and blatant disregard for laws meant to protect workers and the public.

Nearly 80,000 SumOfUs members, including thousands of Uber drivers and riders, signed the petition asking the board of Uber to fire the CEO.

You shared campaign videos, helped make headlines in top media outlets like The Guardian and CNN International, and took a real stand in the name of corporate accountability and workers' rights!

Travis Kalanick was forced to resign as CEO of Uber only a week after the board of directors gave him their blessing to take some time off but stay on as CEO.

There are still many reasons to delete the Uber mobile app, and we need to keep the pressure up until Uber treats all its workers with dignity and respect.

The Economist reported this week that Uber’s market share in the US, its most important market, has declined by 7% since January. This is due in great part to the viral whistleblower stories, the massive movement to #DeleteUber, and actions you took to bring the ugly truth about Uber to light.

Finally, the Uber board has responded with promises to shake up its corporate culture, and a ‘180 Days of Change’ program to retain drivers.

But there's more work to do -- and that's why we need you. Now more than ever we need to keep building public pressure, so all Uber's workers are treated fairly.

Here's what's next: We're planning on polling public opinion and running ads to expose Uber's rotten behavior in London -- the city that's second in Uber's list of "top cities", after San Francisco. With Uber's current license to operate in London expiring in September, this is a crucial window of opportunity to push for change.

That's why we're campaigning with GMB, the union for Uber drivers, asking Transport for London (TfL) not to renew Uber's license to operate there unless Uber guarantees safe working practices and basic employment rights.

This is an ongoing campaign that needs your support.

SumOfUs exists to put bad corporations back in their place. We've only got 32 members of staff, but SumOfUs tames corporate beasts like Uber, Nestlé, and Monsanto.

We're 100% independent, so we run almost entirely on donations from SumOfUs members like you.

If you chip in the equivalent of a cup of coffee once a month, we can keep winning the battles that matter to all of us -- please donate today.

Thanks for all that you do,
Reem, Eoin, Maggie, and the team at SumOfUS
