On the right side of history

rabble.ca 15th anniversary. rabble.ca logo rabble.ca is on the right side of history Dear rabble reader,

For 15 years now, thanks to the support of readers like you, rabble.ca has shone a spotlight on corporate and government abuses of power. That's right, we've been fighting the good fight for a solid 15 years. That makes rabble the oldest surviving independent online news website in the country.

We first started against the backdrop of the massive protests of the third Summit of the Americas meeting in Quebec City on April 18, 2001. And since then we haven't parted ways with or sold out on our activist tradition. Fellow non-sellout Noam Chomsky once said that "it is no exaggeration to say that the hopes for a decent world rest substantially on the success of the kind of work that rabble.ca has been carrying out with such distinction and dedication." What else can you say to that?

rabble.ca has always worked hardest at capturing the stories of ordinary people working to make change in these extraordinary times. We're non-profit. Completely free to the public. And unapologetically progressive. rabble is the model of what media should be and now we run the most-visited alternative news website in Canada. rabble does it all without any corporate sponsorship or government funding. The site, the staff, the archives, overhead, everything. We do it with a budget so small we need to compare it to at least Peter Mansbridge's annual salary (our ENTIRE BUDGET is significantly less!)

How have we made it this far?

Only with your support.

This is our 15th anniversary and we intend to take rabble in new directions! Now is the time to give.

Donate now!
For a limited time, we'll be giving anyone who donates to rabble as a monthly supporter of $15 or more some amazing rewards -- like the Best of rabble.ca 15th anniversary edition -- an edited collection of some of the very best of our history as Canada's longest-lasting online independent news website.

rabble also has some big fans who help us out whenever we need to ask for cash -- including author Lawrence Hill and director Michael Moore. You can also choose as a reward either a copy of Hill's latest book The Illegal or a copy of Moore's latest documentary Where to Invade Next?

Become a rabble monthly supporter at $15 or more and receive both the Best of rabble.ca 15th anniversary edition and your choice of one other gift. Just go here, donate, and send us into the next 15 years with the cash to hire the next generation of independent journalists, writers and thinkers who fight for social change in Canada every day.

If you can't afford $15/month you can still get the Best of rabble 15th anniversary edition for as little as $5/month or for a single donation of $50. That's all it takes. Think of it as a voluntary subscription and we'll always send you a reward in return.

We don't like asking for cash without offering you something in return. You're probably getting emails like this weekly or even daily and feel like you're in a perpetual telethon and there's no way out. We're not fans of begging. We only come to our donors when we have something important to say or have something to offer. If you don't like these emails, just know that we hear you and want to limit the pain of supporting the progressive causes. You can unsubscribe to this list here if you want. But that makes it harder for us to keep the lights on.

In solidarity,

Kim Elliott

Reserve your copy now! The Illegal by Lawrence Hill The Illegal

Five years of work went in to Lawrence Hill's latest Canada Reads battle of the books winner and it shows. Tackling the timely issue of refugee discrimination, this book offers so much more insight about the plight of illegals everywhere beyond media discourse and cold, hard statistics.

Canada's favourite American is back! Director Michael Moore debuted his latest documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival and this time he takes aim at American foreign policy in a more playful manner, making his strongest arguments yet for a more palatable form of Yankee patriotism.
