Did you get your invitation to the local Kinder Morgan meetings? r33

Neither did we...

Dear Paov,

On the West Coast, we're used to being shut out of government hearings on pipeline and tanker proposals. But this summer, the federal government has taken things to a new level.

The federal government’s review panel is coming to Victoria next Monday and Tuesday. We need you to pack these meetings full so that Ottawa knows we say NO to increased tanker traffic in the Salish Sea.

While the panel deliberately scheduled these meetings Monday to Friday, midsummer, and gave scant details at the last minute, the sizable turnout in the BC Interior and Lower Mainland shows just how much British Columbians are not going to let Kinder Morgan steamroll and dictate their views.

A tar sands spill in the Salish Sea would be a catastrophe for our coastal communities. We got a painful reminder of the unacceptable risk of pipelines when one burst into the North Saskatchewan River on July 17, poisoning the water supply of 70,000 people and permanently tarring the bottom of the river.

We cannot let this happen here.

Will you raise your voice at the public meetings in Victoria and tell the panel to put this pipeline to rest?

The federal panel will be in Victoria:
August 22: Victoria BC, Marriott Inner Harbour Hotel, Pacific Ballroom
0900-1200: First Nations roundtable
1330-1530: Local government roundtable

August 23: Victoria BC, Marriott Inner Harbour Hotel, Pacific Ballroom
1230-1500: Environmental NGO roundtable
1600-2030: Public town hall

We’ll be working with allies on a creative action to show the opposition to this waste of a pipeline.

So wear all black, bring your loud voices, and signs on Aug 23 at 3:30pm to show the panel that Vancouver Island is NOT on board. RSVP to the Facebook event.

If you live in Naniamo or mid-island and need a ride to the hearings in Victoria check out info about carpooling here.

Those of you that work during those days or are on vacation should still have a chance to say NO. If you cannot be there in person but would like to participate, please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. directly.

The strength of our united voices will not go unheard.
